Porn, and all the other things nobody struggles with

Its been quite a while I stopped by this zone, I recently had a conversation with someone about blogging and suddenly I had the urge to come here. This is an article from one of my favorite blogs at the moment and the article really got me thinking about some issues that Christians don't talk about...enjoy  About 5 years ago, I attended this christian program where the man of God  made a categorical statement. “Everyone here struggles with sexual temptations, in one way or the other. Get used to it. Get comfortable talking about it. The hold that struggle has over you is its secrecy”. The ’emphasis on the words ‘everyone’ and ‘struggles’ are mine. But those words struck me rather forcibly at the time. Everyone? Struggle? Like it’s a real live problem for everyone? Let me give you a little perspective. I had been a christian for a while and was just fresh out of University. Sexual struggles had hitherto been reserved for those ‘bad boys turned Jesus boys’ that had had ...

Naija Single Girl: Job Hunting in Nigeria

This article has no preamble at all because the heading says it all, i came across it on my favorite  The job hunting period can prove to be a dispiriting one in anybody’s life. The travails are unimaginable for Nigerians looking for job in Nigeria; notwithstanding the fact that you graduated with a ‘first class upper’ or not. Of course, unemployment is a norm everywhere, but ours in Nigeria is pathetically an eyesore. Nigerian companies, government organisations and multinational Companies are filled to capacity. One requires ‘connections’ to get a placement with government organisations. If you intend to follow due process, well, the last immigration exercise is a lesson for us all. Multinational companies rarely hire, and when they do, the application process is extremely tedious. Vacancies in Nigerian companies are mainly marketing jobs a.k.a corporate mad man job-  where one is forced to wear a suit and hawk the company services from Ojota to MileII, unti...

MUCH ADO ABOUT NEW YEARS RESOLUTION

It is only fair to talk about New Year’s resolution because this the first post for this year, so I will say happy New Year (covers face). At the end of the year 2013, I had a working idea of how my year would be like so as 2014 came, I had armed myself with different resolutions which I would run with throughout the year. I did everything right, I thought long and hard about the resolution, how I will go about it, what will I need to make it work , you name it I thought of it. But the first quarter of the year is coming to an end and wait for it….drum roll… I have not achieved or even attempted one, the book I wrote it on is nowhere to be found.  I know *rolls eyes*, everyone I tell is shaking their head at me, but I know I am not alone in my fool’s paradise; we are many out there and it cuts across tribes, race and even continents because the abandonment of new year’s resolution before the end of the first quarter of the year is a known phenomenon, but what is the essence ...

Become a Super Saving Style Diva! 6 Great Tips for Shopping Smart & Spending Less

Ever since I started paying for things with my ATM card, life has seemed to be a breeze. They ask you for your card, you hand it over, punch in a few numbers and that gorgeous skirt is all yours. The feeling is empowering. But something that doesn't make me feel so good is when I get the bank account status alert on my phone. At that point I’m looking at the receipts going “How the hell did I spend so much today?” Well after one too many mini-brain aneurysms, I decided I was going to start shopping smart. What is the use of buying a great item and regretting it later? So that’s what we will be doing today, figuring out how to shop smart. First of all I know that sometimes the little voice in your head overshadows logic and tell you having a sequined skirt in 5 colors is an investment into your future, but sometimes you need to shut that voice up and think smart. These tips are not set in stone, but they have helped me a whole lot to get the best value for my money. Buy Ch...

New Leadership Series with Chude Jideonwo: Soaring On the Wings of Hope

By Chude Jideonwo A lot of Nigerians who want to try and change their country and who have a zeal to do so are being discouraged by the myriad of challenges that abound.  There’s the school of thought that there’s so much to do but few people willing and able to do them. The idea is that the situation in the country is so hopeless and there is nothing we can do. I have been there many times, and not too long ago. I have spent the past eight years of my life working for country in one way or the other, and trying to sell hope and working to build platforms for my generation to impact the country, but very frequently I find myself so terribly disillusioned. It feels like I cannot succeed where, to rely on recent history, Gani Fawehinmi, Chinua Achebe,Aminu Kano and others have failed. At those times, I have managed to inspire myself by reminding myself of five times in my life when I have felt such an incredible sense of hope and faith – in myself, in my countrymen and in change...

Could Failing Save Our Nation

I get the whole prosperity thing, I really do. But whatever happened to contentment? Whatever happened to being thankful and grateful for what you have right now instead of perpetually clamoring for more? When is enough enough? When do you say, okay, I’m rich enough now. Lemme start to be content and start to help the less privileged? It does not exist! That time…not for everyone at least. A very small percentage of the world’s population controls half the wealth in the whole world. Truth is, nobody hands it to them and they know the price they paid to get there. But you, yes you! You want a private jet and you still want to sleep for 8 hours a day, and then spend 5 hours praying. Pray tell, how much time is left for you to work? But you, yes you! You want a private jet and you still want to sleep for 8 hours a day, and then spend 5 hours praying. Pray tell, how much time is left for you to work? You want to graduate with 1st class and you spend 6 hours at the prayer garden, ...

Taking Parental Guidance in “PG” More Seriously

By Penshy The new year comes with its own brand of drama. The world is never really drama free is it? We find ourselves asking questions like- will Kim Kardashian ever marry again? How many men does it take to screw in a light bulb? Is it now socially acceptable to expose children to nudity? It’s a known fact that we should adopt some kind of caution when it comes to exposing children to matters of the opposite sex and sex in general, but it seems with the age we are in, extra care has to be taken. We have the fashion industry, which looks more like its American and French counterparts day by day, promoting the showing of more skin, and then the music industry that more often than not teach our kids words like: “sarkodie” which means a vulgar and inappropriate thing in English. Not that these songs aren’t hits, but they have PG written all over them. Your kids don’t know what PG means, but you do. My aunt would definitely agree with me after her 5 year old told her friends “my m...

Incredible Life

Incredible life We go through life automatically everyday without thinking about how we sleep or wake up. Also we just say prayers automatically without giving it a thought. I once participated in an exercise where we were asked to time the exact moment we fell asleep, but alas !I can tell you that nobody could get the exact time! That exercise brought to my mind how this world we live in is nothing because on the long run every thing that happens we really cannot say this is how it really is, I seriously do not care much for scientific explanations "tongue out". The long and short of this is, this life is not explanable, it's to short and not so big. If you want to enjoy it, this is what you do: 1. Stop and smell the flowers once in a while 2. Go for Monthly or Quaterly medical check ups 3. Fall in love and enjoy it 4. Make love and kiss a lot 5. Quarrel less and make friends 6. Value your family and loved ones 7. Above all believe and love God your creator an...

This is Hip Hop, not the Civil War Part 2 – Muna’s management reacts to ‘beef’ with Mode 9

RMG, the artiste management/record label that handles Munachi Abii, have released a statement in reaction to the viral video where Muna is seen to be arguing with Mode 9 during the final of ‘Nokia Don’t Break The Beat” Competition’. Muna is seen to oppose Mode 9′s verdict on TKO, one of the contestants and she makes her point boldly and emphatically. Mode 9 doesn’t take it lightly and repeats severally to Muna that he is an experienced hip hop head and that is why he is the chief judge on the reality show. The former MBGN however kept telling him to pass the microphone. The issue has been the subject of varying reactions on blogs and social media, since the video from Nigezie found its way onto the Internet. Now her management company has released a statement which reads: “To Whom It May Concern. It has come to my attention that the unfortunate incident that occurred at the Nokia “Don’t Break The Beat” competition on Saturday the 28th of April 2012, where RMG artiste Muna w...

A CASE OF NIGERIA vs. THE PEOPLE

January 9 th dawned on Nigeria as a day to remember. It was the day Nigerians decided to stand up to the government of the day in move known as #Occupy Nigeria. From Lagos to Ibadan down to kogi up to Abuja, Nigeria was occupied with protest led by the organized labor and the civil society groups. This protest was an offshoot from the government’s decision to end “subsidy” on fuel on the 1 st of January, 2012, there by increasing the price of PMS to N141. This decision by the government did not go down well with the people who felt that the “subsidy” was the only dividend they enjoyed from the only natural resource in Nigeria being utilized by the government. The Governments excuse is that it is losing money daily and that the country cannot afford to continue with the business of subsidization because it has so much projects to complete in the coming months which the funds formerly used for subsidizing would be used for. There is also the issue of deregulation of the down str...

FUEL SUBSIDY: Where Government Got It Wrong

After work yesterday, I had to do some sort of sober reflection on Nigeria’s nascent democracy; I call it nascent because we are still growing and not yet close to the proverbial Promised Land. I realized that besides the fall outs from the June 12 elections, nothing has ever elicited such a collective and emphatic stance from Nigerians as the removal of fuel subsidy right from 1960 up to this moment though I stand to be corrected. So, in my own little quiet zone, being not such a great fan of Nigerian politics due to many factors that has culminated in giving me a liberal standpoint politically, I decided that for the couple of days to come, I would be taking a look at some of the issues that has led to this rather unfortunate milestone in our political journey and how such future occurrences could easily be averted, though it would not be rigidly limited to just the removal of fuel subsidy. For me, I believe it’s high time our democratic ‘rulers’ ( I call them rulers because leaders ...

YEAR ENDS

It's the end of the year again, those of us who have conscience would sit down and measure ourselves. Did I keep to my new Years Resolution? I am better or worse for it? this year was it productive or useless? Did I grow fat or thin? Did I multiply or Reduce? Am I closer to God or loving the underworld? Is there any personal improvement in my life? Did I think of my neighbour in all my attitude? Was I a good child to my parents? Was I a Good brother or sister to my siblings? At work was I productive? the questions just keep coming, some with answers while the others well you carry over to the next year........... my prayer is that may the coming year come with all the good prayers and wishes of our hearts.....emm emphasis on the good part!!! lol HAPPY NEW YEAR...... 2012

A CRY

a cry for help a cry for a voice a cry to be heard a cry for the child a cry for the bloodshed a cry for the nation a cry for Nigeria a cry for the people Nigeria my Home Nigeria I cry for you!!!

FLOWERS & PEOPLE

I was watching a flower come to life the other day and it was very magical and unexplainable. this got me thinking any flower that is not watered and nurtured would eventually wither and die away. it reminded me of a young girl who is not watered & nurtured with wisdom would eventually die away IE, fall into the hands of the wrong people, get bad advice &make wrong choices. I am also thinking of a very brilliant mind that is not properly utilised & watered would also wither away. because as the saying goes "a mind is a terrible thing to waste" also i have another "an idle mind is the devil's workshop" A mind that is redundant & static would eventually pack up & die . A funny thot just came to me, "marriage" you know marriage is the most neglected flower in this garden of life because most times especially in our generation, we jump in & jump out for the wrong and right reasons depending on whose side u belong; some base the fo...

Frustration of the working class...JETBLUE example

earlier this week a flight attendant let out his frustration at an obnoxious passenger who was rude to him and he fled the plane, but was later arrested but granted bail. while airline pays the passengers on that flight "compensation" for their troubles saying it's their policy. now the is agog with various sites praising him, immortalizing, dramatization of the whole incidence. this situation has now brought to fore the inevitable question, what happened? that the working class is lashing out, people don't respect honest working individuals, places of employment have become graveyards of dreams and aspirations...........hmmm all these make stop and ponder on what the future holds for us, because if this can happen in America;the supposed most powerful nation in the world?! I wonder what is happening in our 'developing" nation? just my thots

THINGS THAT SUCK pt2

hi again its me; I am here to still talk about things that suck....... people who cheat and decieve others for their own selfish ends. can you imagine my friend went for an interview that advertised for "customer care agents" but after everything they told them that it was for "marketers"........ am sure you get my picture. things like this get on my nerves. people please try not cheat applicant, they are going through a lot and they don't need to add cheated to their resume.......it just sucks!!!!!!!!

things that suck!

Right now I find all those universities owned by churches really annoying. from their very unbelievable rules, to their unrealistic policies and worse of all their FEES............yuck! please I believe that religion, politics and business don't mix because many exploit the people who bring children to these schools. A university is supposed to be a place for the individual to find themselves both academically, spiritually and socially especially interactions with the opposite sex.......yeah i said it... but these schools are seriously lacking, can you imagine that if you talk to a guy or even hug him you will be sanctioned?!! movement is seriously monitored!!!!! hello back to secondary school boarding house again!!!!!!!@/?#&%$ that's what i think about them.........theyyyyy suck!!!....(to be contd)

parents

many times we just want to disappear when our parents start to tell us those boring old stories and we are just to polite to walk away. but they are still our parents and we love them. Has your parent done anything that you know is very wrong but you dare not say anything or else you will get an earful............lol
